Does Blogging Make You Shop More?

I have seen some bloggers saying that blogging makes them shop more b/c they feel pressured to keep new looks for their readers. I beg to differ. LONG before I ever decided to blog I had a shopping problem......I think blogging and reading other blogs has actually helped to curb my spending (ok I still haven't really curbed my spending),  but I used to be notorious for wearing things once and never wearing them again. Blogging inspires me to go closet shopping and wear old things in new ways so I don't feel so bad about buying things. Sometimes I even see a blogger in an item that I own and say hey I haven't worn that in so long!!! I would definitely say that blogging has helped me manage my wardrobe a lot better and it's also inspired me to stop hoarding so many old shoes. Blogging also inspired me to thrift more.......b/c curvier women tend to migrate to the same places a lot of curvy bloggers end up with the same looks so I love thrifting b/c it's easy on the pockets and you don't have to worry about seeing an outfit styled the exact same way you envisioned it before you ever post a pic of it...........

Does being a fashion blogger help /harm you? As a reader do bloggers make you shop more?  Comment below.

Until Next Time,

  2. Girl I just have a shopping problem. Blogging helps me "shop my closet" more but trust, there is no increase in shopping due to any pressures to be brand new for each post. I love my clothes and shoes.....I'm wearing the heck outta them every chance I get!

  3. Great topic...I feel like blogging has been helpful. I don't have a shopping problem. Certainlyt not because I'm perfect and have no issues but because finances won't allow...heh. I believe blogging has helped me to look at several items differently and the result of that is having more success in the thrift stores.

I can certainly understand that some may feel the pressure but I have not. I actually have fun remixing stuff. I post about 2-3 times a week and trust me, on the other days I am remixing the heck out of some items and having a boat load of fun doing it without having the spend any extra money. If you catch me saying "I don't have a thing to wear" smack me.

  5. Blogging has made shop more nor thrift less. It keeps me at the same pace. My blog showcases mainly thrift fashion and fashion styling on a budget, so I do not ever feel like I need to spend more because I want to show more outfits and etc. No pressure here.

  6. Shopping has just always been my problem. The only thing that is hurting me right now is this time of year ! It's like an excuse to buy buy buy lol. But blogging hasnt't made my shopping addiction any worse. The only clothing items I've bought for myself lately are sweater and that's b/c I believe you can't have too many of those, but they were all on sale! : )

There's no pressure for me to buy all new stuff every other day just to give my readers a new look. I remix what I have. & I've been trying to go through the stuff I already have hanging around w/ tha tags still on them.

    great post lovely!

  7. This is a great topic! Blogging doesn't make me shop more but it helps me to shop better. If you all notice, I wear the same shoes often. lol. I get great styling ideas from blogging though!

  8. Great topic!! Your response is identical to mine. I definitely don't feel the pressure, and like you said it helps me wear things in my closet , and to be creative and remix things that I have already worn. Shopping is my addiction so that's a separate topic all together....lol

  9. I rarely run out and buy something that I see someone else has. I had a shopping addiction long before the blog, so I don't think it makes it worse or better. But, I will say it has made me remix my pieces more instead of always going to find something new in order to keep the blog interesting. To me, that is more inspiring than someone showing an entire new look.

  10. I have felt inspired to go out and shop more but I rarely act upon the urges I get after going through blogs lol. But I can see how some people may shop more after checking out a few blogs, it does get a bit tempting!

  11. Girl, you took the words right out of my mouth!

I love blogging...it forces me to wear the things in my closet that I've deemed unwearable.

I love the challenge and how much money I'm actually saving :)

  13. Thanx for all of your comments ladies it was a pleasure to read all of your opinions on this topic!!! so based on your comments it seems that the bloggers that shop FOR their blogs are a minority. The rest of us are about remixing and creating new looks with old pieces

  14. My shopping habit has been what it is before blogging. My boyfiend is always asking me what have I ordered or purchased today? Lol!!! Its in my genetic makeup to love to treat myself and definitely if its a bargain! Blogging has only intrigued me to explore my current wardrobe and it has introduced me more to thrifting.

  15. ikr it's BAD when the mailman knows ur dang work schedule lolllllll!!! Blogging has definitely made me revisit some things I forgot about in my wardrobe.....It also made me take thrifting more seriously I used to go here and there now I try to go at least once a week to try to find cool stuff.

  16. This was a interesting topic, and I'd say blogging hasn't changed the way I shop, I've always had this problem lol, but it has helped me remix the clothes I have, when I see someone with something I have or similar it gives me new ideas for how to style items the next time I wear them. Blogging is responsible for my addiction to thrifting now tho... I never even went to a thrift store to find clothes before blogging, I now see the payoff especially for some trendy items you don't want to pay a lot for, at least they are affordable and you can get rid of them when the trend changes.. Great post, and interesting reading everyone's response.

  20. I totally agree, blogging makes me shop my closet. I'm now a thrifter and I never would have tried that before. I don't feel a need to shop. It's like the saying goes: why spend money you don't have on clothes you don't need, for people who don't care? That's my two cents.

  22. I do shop more.....for accessories! I just didn't think a lot about how a simple change of a belt could change a look.

  24. Fantastic topic!! I did initially, shop a little more, but only because I was looking for things that other bloggers wore (God help me if they posted the link! LOL!) However, I am like you now... pulling stuff out of my closet! I got enough to choose from... lol. ;)

  25. This is really a issue in the blogsphere! I keep my mind cooler on that department. Shop closet is a lot of fun. And because I love vintage I always "visit" 2nd hand shops!I don't know how is with you in the USA, but here in the Netherlands 2nd hands/vintage shops are an amazing alternative for your style and budget! and you can "recycle" your own closet too. Those pieces you don't need anymore you can take to the shop to sale, so you make business as well - Lol

Check out my blog for inspiration!
